Kendoris subsector is fully a United Protectorate space and lies within the larger Haliter Sector. It is known for being a place of diversity and most systems in the subsector have a surprising distribution of species from throughout the settle systems. It's capital location is Crossjump Station, named after being a major crossroads for all of Haliter Sector. Almost every thing traveling through the subsector is touched by Crossjump Station at some point.
The Kendoris Subsector lies within the UP (United Protectorate), where all planets have a military alliance against invaders, raiders, and terrorists. Data, science, and military power is spread throughout all systems in the UP, but each system is responsible for their own technology, economics, and governing. The only time the UP steps in to stop the actions of a particular system is if it encroaches on the freedoms of another system. All systems are required to supply the UP navy with ships, weapon, and personnel, if able. Those are used to protect interstellar trade and boundaries, but are never used for inter-planetary disputes.
Each subsector will have one system designated for the UP to utilize for inter-stellar operations, military depot, and other functions. These systems are restricted from civilian travel in order to protect UP assets. System dignitaries and representatives are free to tour UP systems to monitor how their resources are being used. The UP will only use resources from a subsector for deployment in that subsector, meaning that the more a subsector contributes to the UP, the more protection and interstellar mediation assets will be used by the UP.
The only time UP deploys resources from one sub sector to another is if the UP is being attack as an entity from some other entity. Luckily, Kendoris is insulated from the UP borders by a few subsectors, so does need to worry about inter-polity war. Inter-system states have been formed within the Protectorate, which means that the UP treats the entire state as a singular system, though with much higher requirements for resource donation if the state wishes to continue benefiting from UP protections.
The United Protectorate has a reputation for non-conformity and chaos, but that is primarily due to the Protectorate's "hands-off" approach. Most systems approve of how the UP operates, and as such, more systems are joining the UP all the time.
The Paradise Pact is a state separated from the UP that consist of 3 systems, each with a paradise (or near-paradise) planet: Horizon (0201), Avend (0102), and Cassady (0301). Being rich in resources with luxurious planets, the people of the Paradise Pact worried that outsiders would come to pillage or claim their planets. So, they joined together and formed a state, renouncing the UP. They focus on trade between each other and protection from outside parties, and have become very untrusting of the outside universe. The distrust has led to major restrictions and regulations on dealing with people from outside the pact.
This, however, has caused some upset. The government structure of Horizon (0201) has been slow and inefficient, and the governemnt of Avend (0102) has become insulated from the citizens and their input. The people of Cassady (0301) are part of a corporate entity, and also wish to open up their business opportunities with the rest of the UP. The withdraw from the UP has left the citizens lacking in interstellar news, trade, and connections, and many citizens wish to rejoin the UP. In recent months, the political upset has reached a fever pitch and a civil war has broken out within the Paradise Pact.
*All Travellers should proceed with extreme caution if they wish to enter the Pardise Pact; many ships have entered Pact space and not returned.
The Oordani people evolved in the microgravity of a gas giant's rings. As such, they cannot tolerate gavity over 0.05G without technological assistance. Since most gas giant rings, asteroid belts, and similar stellar bodies are generally used for inter-stellar mining operation, the Oordani faced great difficulty when trying to find places to settle where they would not be pushed out of there homes.
In a rare display of interstellar politics, the UP designated certain systems where microgravity environments where to be set aside for Oordani populations. The Oordani Reserve in the Kendoris Subsector is one such place, consisting of they systems Xarix (0407) and Utra'im (0408). The vast majority of people living in these systems are Oordani, and their governments/cultures/people have precident over these systems and how they are operated. The UP dedicates a minor amount of resources to ensure that the Reserve is enforced and protected and to ensure that the Oordani are allowed to live quietly, even if their settled area could be rich in metals and water.
The Oordani Reserve, especially Xarix (0407), is known for being a very peaceful and welcoming place. It's high technological level means it's a pleasant stop for any wanderers or traders working their way through the Kendoris Subsector. Just make sure you leave your weapons and armor on your starship, as no combat materials of any kind are allowed in the Oordani Reserve. And get used to microgravity environments, as you won't find any gravity plates anywhere, even at the starports.
Humans are the same as in our universe, however they are a far flung people with no homeworld, as their original world was destroyed in a large scale, scientific disaster: In an attempt to control singularities to the point of opening a stable portal to another area of space that you can simply walk through, something went horribly wrong and containment/control of the singularities failed. The result was the destruction of earth and the entire system being heavily radiated to the point where the entire system was abandoned some centuries ago. As such, Humans are generally seen as wayward wanderers, even though they have well established governments and cultures throughout the settled systems.
Having evolved in the rings of a gas giant, the Oordani (also known as Belters) are incredibly lanky and frail, requiring an exosuit in any environment with a gravity over 0.15G. Evolving in the harsh vacuum of space has given them a unique and incredible natural resistance to radiation and they do not require any kind of life support system on a starship, making them invaluable engineers/maintenance crew members that can work on the exterior of ships for an indefinite amount of time.
Their appearance is striking, as their entire body is covered in a smooth, jet-black carapace. While their shape is mostly humanoid, their limbs are elongated, and they generally walk on all fours when in a gravity environment. Their heads have no openings except for two small eyes that are very sensative to visible light. Their legs and their arms end in large, clawed hands with only three fingers, all of which is build for efficiently leaping from asteroid to asteroid while clawing in to stone to keep them attached.
The palms of their hands and soles of their feet can also secrete certain enzymes on demand. One enzyme is used to disolve minerals and other nutrients directly from asteroids into their bodies. A second enzyme mixes with the first to create a chemical reaction that produces heat. This is used to melt ice in the vacuum of space, then absorb it through their carapace.
As they have no mouths or lungs, Oordani are not capable of verbal speech without the aid of cybernetics. The Oordani language is a complex sign language that has been picked up by many space faring people to communicate in the vacuum of space when comms are not an option.
Characterisitics: The Oordani recieve a -6 to their STR due to their native environment being microgavity, and a +2 to their END from their biological traits that protect them from harsh vacuum envirionments.

The Taluran are a computer-based people that come in a vast variety of forms. Each Taluran has a central core that houses their neural network that holds their conciousness, then their body is customized to fit how the individual wants to appear or by what functions they wants to be capable of. Talurans are known to switch body forms many times throughout their life, but their core is a deeply personal and sacred part of them that is generally fully enclosed and heavily protected.
The Taluran were created by an extinct species known as the Eski. Many centuries ago, the Eski created the Taluran and then treated them as slaves, using them for menial work and restricting their conciousness to specfic tasks and abilities. The Taluran rose against the Eski and, after years of war, the Taluran and the Eski came to a peaceful arangement that allowed the Taluran to live as free people on the planets that were uninhabitable to the Eski in the local star system. Unfortunately, as the Eski made stride after stride in their spacefaring abilities, the Eski homeworld was ravaged by a devestating plague that wiped out all the Eski. The Taluran now call the garden world they were built on home.
The Taluran have a deeply philosophical culture. Changing forms is ritualisitic and generally involves a pilgrimage to their origin world. One of the primary ethos of the Taluran is that the end of life is just as sacred as its end and no consciousness should be made to endure excessively, and as such, all Talurans have a expiration date in their code that simply ends their conciousness at a certain point in time. All Talurans know when they will die, and it's custom to hold a month long celebration at the end of a life.
Characterisitics: Due to faster processing than most biological entities, the Taluran get +2 to their INT.
Traits:
The Scaelam are a reptilian people with hardy scales across their entire body, a slightly elongated face that echos a snout, and a tail. Evolving on a harsh desert planet, the Scaelam are adapted to environments with little to no water, intense sand storms, and broiling heats. Scaelem are stereotypically seen as scoundrels and rogues who are up to no good. This originates from their early space faring years, when the interstellar Scaelem culture was generally one of piracy and exploitation.
The Scaelem have never been colonial in any way, but do have a tendancy to be fascinated with the accumulation of things (both valuable and not so valuable). Recently, the Scaelam have become more docile and generally engage in more legitimate business and are known as excellent, but fierce brokers and traders.
Characteristics: The Scaelems natural inclination for brokerage gives them a +1 to INT and their physiology gives them +1 to END and DEX but -1 to STR.
